Manyama Majogoro

Manyama Majogoro is a Ph.D candidate in the faculty of Architectural and Arts of Hasselt University, Belgium. He has a B.Sc. degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Ardhi University, Tanzania and a Master's degree in engineering (Projects) management from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

PhD topic: The application of digital technologies in participatory land use planning and conflict resolution in planned urban settlements.

Gasper Kabendela

Gasper Kabendela is an Assistant Lecturer and Town Planner working with the Environmental Planning Department at the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP). He formally worked with Kongwa District Council and Iringa Municipality.  As a Town Planner, he has been working with communities in planning their settlements and environment, resolving land conflicts, planning guidelines interpretation, and implementing and monitoring development plans with communities and stakeholders.

PhD topic: Participatory Planning and Land Conflict Management in Informal Settlements. A case of Ubungo Municipality in Dar Es Salaam.

Deogratius Amedeus Marenge


Deogratius Amedeus Marenge is an assistant lecturer in the School of Engineering and Environmental Studies (SEES) in the civil and environmental engineering department.

He holds a BSc. degree in Civil engineering from Ardhi University, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and MSc. Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from Gujarat Technological University; in Ahmedabad, India. He has 7 years of experience in teaching the design of reinforced concrete, timber and steel structures, and civil engineering drawings and also has experience in the provision of consultancy services related to civil engineering projects. 

PhD topic: The Development of Innovative and Sustainable building blocks by using Bio briquettes Ashes based on Sanitary sludge.

Emmanuel Nsekela

Emmanuel Nsekela is an Assistant Research Fellow at Ardhi University's Institute of Human Settlements Studies (IHSS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Currently, he is enrolled in a PhD in Engineering Technology at Hasselt University in Belgium, and a PhD in Environmental Technology and Management (ETM) at Ardhi University in Tanzania. 

His research topic/focus is on the investigation of the use of anaerobic digestion to convert waste to energy. He graduated from Ardhi University with an MSc in Environmental Technology and Management (ETM) and a BSc in Environmental Science and Management (ESM). His research areas of interests include Climate Change, Water and Sanitation, Resource recovery, Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Conservation and Sustainability, Environmental Management, Environmental Risk and Urban Development.  Furthermore, Emmanuel is an Occupational health and Safety practitioner.

Latifa Rashid Litwe is currently employed at Ardhi University (ARU) as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geospatial Sciences and Technology. She is an expert in Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing. She holds MSc. Geomatics (specialized in Geoinformatics) and Bsc. Geoinformatics both from Ardhi University

Latifa is now a Pre-doctoral student at KU Leuven in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science. Her research focus is on Urban food system resilience in the rapidly urbanizing cities of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Yusuf Marwa


Yusuf, Marwa P. is an economist and statistician who works in the capacity of assistant lecturer at the department of economics of the University of Dodoma, Tanzania. He has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in economics and statistics from the University of Dodoma; a Master of Science (MSc.) degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Hohenheim, Germany. His research interests include applied econometrics, food security and climate change, survival analysis, economic growth and development, agriculture, macroeconomics and renewable energy systems.

Katondo Nambiza

Katondo Nambiza is a Civil Engineer of Ardhi University (2014) with about seven years of experience in bus operations at the Dar Rapid Transit (DART) Agency. He holds a Master’s degree in Transportation Sciences of Hasselt University (2020) with specialization in traffic safety. He uses his experience and expertise in transportation sciences in implementing operational activities at the Agency to improve public transport services to commuters using the DART system.

Currently, Katondo is enrolled in a PhD Program in Transportation Sciences at the Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) of Hasselt University in partnership with Ardhi University. His research topic is based on Urban Transport where the main focus is to develop the Behavioral Change Techniques (BCTs) to improve the traffic Safety of Motorcyclists in Developing Countries by changing their risk behaviors to safe driving behaviors.

Catherine Bhoke


Catherine is an Assistant Lecturer at The University of Dar es Salaam, Department of Structural and Construction Engineering in the College of Engineering and Technology (CoET). Currently, taking her PhD studies at Hasselt University in Belgium, department of Architecture and Arts scholarship sponsored by Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR).

In 2018, she was registered as a Quantity Surveyor (QS) with Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB), having working experience of more than 5 years in consultant firms of construction industry. She is also an Associate Member of Tanzania Institute of Quantity Surveyors (TIQS).

In 2016, she graduated from Ardhi University, where she pursued Master degree of Science in Construction Economics and Management (MSc. CEM). In 2014, she obtained her degree in Bachelor of Science in Building Economics (BSc. BE) at Ardhi University, Tanzania.

She has been practicing in the construction Industry since April 2014 whereby she worked as a QS Assistant at Build-Consult (T) Ltd (QS Consultant Firm) up to December 2021. She has been a consultant to various public and private organisations in Tanzania in the provision of consultancy services, knowledge, and skills in the field quantity surveyor upon request.

Alphonce Carol Behitsa

Alphonce is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es

Salaam, Department of Structure and Construction Engineering

in the College of Engineering and Technology teaching in the

Architecture Degree Programme.

Alphonce holds a bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture

and masters degree in Architecture both from Ardhi University.

He has experience in teaching in academia and the Tanzanian

construction industry of over seven years.

Alphonce is pursuing his PhD studies in Architecture at Hasselt

University as a member of the TRACE Research Group within

the Faculty of Architecture and Arts sponsored by the Flemish

Interuniversity Council (VLIR). His research centers on Cultural

Heritage, specifically on the preservation of Intangible Cultural

Heritage through Construction Craftsmanship, with a focus on

the Bagamoyo case.
